Treasurer’s Report

All refunds for the Babettes dinner have been processed. There are no other major expenses slated for the balance of 2011.
Membership Drive

No change in membership. Current chapter membership is 227 dues paying members. There are 296 local members in the Alumni data base.

Monthly Luncheon
Update (Ed Brownlee ’81)

November’s speaker will be Greg Bennett of the Shepherd Center. Mr. Bennett is a retired Navy Corpsman and will discuss the work the Shepherd Center is doing with wounded military servicemen regarding medical treatment, research and rehabilitation for people with spinal cord injury or brain injury.
There is no luncheon slated for December.
The chapter is looking for potential future speakers for the start of 2012. Potential speakers discussed include the local USO leadership and Brian Stann, USMC and Class of
1999.

Enrollment

Auto enrollment option is now available to the chapter. Two members have already used the new tool and have automatically renewed membership.
Navy Football
Next game for the Midshipman will be Saturday, November 19th against San Jose State. No viewing as the game will be carried on ESPN 3.
2011 is Navy’s turn to host the Army-Navy Game. This year’s game is set for Saturday,
12-12-11. Dantanna’s at the CNN Center (http://www.dantannas.com/) is the site for
this year’s event. This is a great location with good food and ample parking.
Restaurant ownership is very eager to host this event. Anticipated attendance for this event is expected to be between 250-300 people. BoD has reviewed and approved proposed menu selections.

New Atlanta Chapter Facebook page was launched in September. Our new link can be found at http://www.facebook.com/pages/U-S-Naval-Academy-Alumni-Association-Atlanta-Chapter-USNAAAA/111534325567216
Our Facebook page has exceeded our initial goal 25 “likes” from local alumni. Our Facebook page has 48 active users, with 30 new people “liking” our page in the last week and 193 visits in the last two weeks.
Ed to continue to make chapter members aware of our Facebook presence during the monthly luncheons. Please pass the word and the link on to our local Shipmates.
Lobsterfest 2012
Red Top Mountain Shelter #2 has been reserved for Saturday, June 2nd for Lobsterfest 2012.

Appreciation Dinner

Steve Frederick ’72 is working to host an appreciation dinner for all of the team members who help prepare this year’s meal for the chapter. More details to follow.
2011 Holiday Open
House

Holiday Open House 2011 is set for Sunday, 12-4-11 at the Heritage at Vinnings Clubhouse.
2012 Dark Ages Event

Date TBD. 57 Fighter Squadron was discussed as a possible location for this year’s event as Fort McPherson has been closed. This year’s event will be less formal.
USNA Gospel Choir
The Gospel Choir will come to Atlanta on MLK Weekend, January 14-16 to perform. The board is looking for a new sponsor to relieve Stew Caldwell.
USO Support at
Hartsfield-Jackson Airport

The USO has opportunities for the chapter to serve by welcoming home returning veterans. This opportunity may be available to alumni and the USNA Parents Club. Ed to work with the USO and confirm open dates for the chapter.
