Chapter Trustee Update (Ples Bruce ‘77)
No update as Ples is attending the Admissions/Membership Committee Meeting in Annapolis.
Monthly Luncheon Update (Ed Brownlee ’81)
In August we have Buddy Wellborn, Navy Football Historian, slated to address the chapter at the August luncheon and kick off the upcoming football season.
September‘s speaker is Misty Skedgell, VP of Public Relations at Turner. Ms Skedgell will address the chapter on the business aspects of Media.
October and November speaker slots are open. One potential speaker could be Ned Hunter ’81. Ned can provide the chapter with the Admissions update for the Class of 2016.
The chapter is looking for potential future speakers for the balance of 2011’s luncheon series.
Going forward luncheon speakers will begin promptly at 11:50 and conclude at 1:00. Networking activities will take place after the chapter speaker concludes with their message and Q&A.
Old/New Business (Ed Brownlee ’81)
Vision, Mission and Strategy document
The Board of Directors (BoD)and Officers have reviewed and approved the president’s new 2011-2012 Vision, Mission, Strategy and Goals document for the USAAA Atlanta Chapter. Chapter’s by-laws will be changed to reflect the current document.
Membership-Auto Enrollment
BoD have agreed to move forward with introducing an auto enrollment option to the chapter which will automatically renew membership until the member opts out or the member’s credit card expires. Angus to make the necessary arrangements for the chapter’s website and provide a demo at next month’s BOD meeting.
Navy Football
First Navy Football game is slated for Saturday, 9-3-11. The chapter will host the game at a new location, the Taco Mac at Prado. Kick-off is set for 3:30.
Location for the second and third games, Navy-USC and Navy-Western Kentucky, is pending.
2011 is Navy’s turn to host the Army-Navy Game. This year’s game is set for Saturday, 12-12-11. Ed is in the process of securing Dantanna’s at the CNN Center (http://www.dantannas.com/). This is a great location with good food and ample parking. Restaurant ownership is very eager to host this event.
Alumni Social/Networking Event
Next chapter social event is set for Thursday, 9-8-11, at the American Legion Post 160 in Smyrna.
Navy Social Media
New Atlanta Chapter Facebook page was launched earlier this month. Our new link can be found at http://www.facebook.com/pages/U-S-Naval-Academy-Alumni-Association-Atlanta-Chapter-USNAAAA/111534325567216
Our initial goal is to get 25 local alumni to “like” the new site from their Facebook account. Please pass the word and the link on to our local Shipmates.
Lobsterfest 2012
No update as Stew Caldwell ’65 was available. Need to secure Red Top Mountain and a date for 2012.
Lobsterfest 2011 Appreciation Dinner
Steve Frederick ’72 is working to host an appreciation dinner for all of the team members who help prepare this year’s meal for the chapter. More details to follow.

USNA is looking for the next round of distinguished graduates. Ed to send nomination packages to all Board of Directors for review.
Chapter Casualty Assistance Notification
This service was previously performed by Carl McCallum ’60. Going forward Bill Rentz ’55 will take a lead role keeping the board and chapter current of local Shipmates that pass.
