There are two outstanding summer camps for high school students interested in the military, Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) and Summer Leadership and Character Development Academy (SLCDA).
Please help pass the word to anyone who interacts with high school students about these camps to a parent of a student, a coach, at your office, or even calling your local high school and talking to the counselor. There are so many high school students who would benefit greatly from these camps…help make a difference in one of their lives and let them know about it. For more information, see below.
Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) camps:
The SAME camps are one week long and are for those high school students (current 9th, 10th and 11th graders) interested in engineering and the military. The student only has to pay $275 and the rest of the costs (including air fare) is covered by the military post. There are 4 camps (Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines). The Army deadline is 25 Mar 13 and the Air Force/Navy/Marine camp application deadlines are 5 Apr 13. - Army in Vicksburg, MS Jun 16-22
- Air Force at USAFA in Colorado Springs, CO Jun 27- Jul 3
- Navy at Port Hueneme, CA Jul 21-27
- Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune, NC Jun 23-29

Summer Leadership and CharacterDevelopmentAcademy (SLCDA) camp:
SLCDA seeks high school students who have finished the 10th grade but have not yet graduated by the time of the Academy in July 2013. All Marine recruiters based in Atlanta are aware of this program. Please forward to friends and organizations with kids in high school. SLCDA is behind on their applicants so any help would be appreciated.
This year marks the second Summer Leadership and Character Development Academy (SLCDA). It will be conducted at and around QuanticoVA on 21-27 July 2013. Last year’s test program was an outstanding success and the plan is to continue to build upon the incredible foundation last year’s staff put together. This year, we are expanding SLCDA to 96 HS students from across the nation.
The program has high visibility. The Commandant of the Marine Corp will be a guest speaker along with LtGen Williams the DMCS.
